Title: Leaving the Nest
Description: When I made this piece I kept my own family in my mind, knowing that I left home earlier than my parents wanted so I could attend my current secondary school. The three birds represent myself and my siblings, one side showing the birds still in the nest, when we were all at home, and the other showing the birds flying away, when we all left in the span of two years. The parent bird cares for its babies, bringing them a worm for them to eat. It nourishes its kids like my own parents cared for me and my siblings, sometimes making mistakes, but always doing their best. On the other side, the parent watches its babies fly away, wings half spread as if to fly after them. My parents were hesitant to let me go early, wanting to "chase after me" to keep me for a little longer, but ultimately knowing that they had to let me and all of my siblings go eventually.
